Workshop on “Decarbonized Futures: Narrating Low Carbon Societies”

6-10 June 2016, Lorentz Center@Oort – Leiden, The Netherlands.
Deadline – 20 January 2016

Harriet Bulkeley, Maarten Hajer, Rob Raven, Janet Stewart and Johannes Stripple, cordially invites junior scholars (Phd Students and recent PhDs) to submit their expression of interest in the workshop Decarbonized Futures: Narrating Low Carbon Societies, from Monday 6 through Friday 10 June 2016.

Workshop abstract

Grappling with the challenge of decarbonisation requires not only action in the present but also that we think of the future in different terms. A range of techniques are being developed to this end – from modeling and scenario techniques, cultural interventions, forms of experimentation and demonstration projects, as well as the development of specific low carbon pathways. While diverse in their aims, they all rely on forms of narrative: of telling compelling stories about the nature of the low carbon future and the means through which it can (and cannot) be achieved. The aim of the Decarbonising Futures workshop is to create a forum through which to activate a new conversation about the potential and limitations of these techniques as a means through which to catalyse the forms of political, economic and social response required for decarbonisation.

More information and application procedures check the post on STRN list by Rob Raven, 26 November 2015.

  1. Thanks Jonas,

This look great. I have to be very selective about my workshops and conferences as I know there are a few around this time including IST – is there any way we could post on the PhD in Transitions, a list of relevant and practical conferences/workshops that PhDs could get the most out of? I know this is easier said than done – but those travelling from the southern hemisphere will need to weigh up if they can also combine some workshops and REAL value for money – thoughts?
